Radical Republicans
The radical republicans were a relatively small subdivision of the republican party that gained prominence roughly around 1860. While they only made up a small portion of the party, there skill was to manipulate the other sub party groups into acting in a way that would benefit their cause. Members of the party were Frederick Douglass, Charles Sumner, Thaddeus Stevens and Horace Greeley. Although he too was a Republican, the Radicals tended to dislike Abraham Lincoln on the grounds that he was too lenient towards the South, especially in his reconstruction policies.
